What are the Differences between a Dye Ink and a Pigment Ink?

Most printers are designed to use specific type of inks that are either dye based or pigment based. Users can simply follow manufacturers’ instructions and purchase the designated cartridges. However, sometimes there is more than one type of inks for the printer. The dye based and the pigment based variations are confusing enough, not to mention that there are other types such as oil and soy based ink cartridges. So which one should you use?

Generally speaking, the dye based and the pigment based ink cartridges are the most common for home and small business office users. Below is a list of pros and cons regarding the two difference based models:

Dye based - Pros
-          Vibrant color
-          Cheaper than pigment based cartridges

Dye based – Cons
-          Water soluble
-          Lower resistance to light and UV rays

Pigment based – Pros
-          Bonds better on selected medium
-          Better resistance when exposed to light

Pigment based – Cons
-          Slightly more expensive than dye based cartridges
-          Less contrast in colors

Generally speaking, pigment based cartridges is ideal when the chosen printing material come with slicker surface, such as materials that require the transparencies setting. In addition, for documents that can be exposed to light or sunlight over a period of time, pigment based is the better choice. If you are looking for vibrant color for photos and intend to keep them indoors,  then dye based cartridges is the way to go. In addition, dye based black cartridges produces slightly darker prints compared to pigment, which is ideal when printing text documents.

We carry a wide range of dye and pigment ink cartridges here at Toner Spot and below are some of our popular dye based ink cartridges for professional use:

Tips on How to Get Email Messages Straight to Inbox Instead of Spam Folder

Email newsletter is one of the most common marketing activities being used today. It not only increases the exposure of the company, but also provides information regarding promotions and discounts. However, all the efforts are going to waste if the email got automatically sorted to the junk mail, or spam folder without even having the chance of being read by the target market. To avoid such wasted opportunity, here are a few tips on how to get email messages straight to the inbox of your intended recipients instead of into their spam folder:

1. Do not shout at your target market, meaning avoid using all CAPS in emails and exclamation marks.

2. Avoid using words like “free, help, percent off, and reminder.” Studies conducted by MailChimp, an email marketing service provider, conclude that these words have higher chances on triggering the spam filters. In addition, they also result in some of the lowest open rates for the messages sent.

3. Avoid using repeating subject lines.

4. Localization is better than personalization. Including recipients’ local cities proven to have a higher email reading rates compared to using their first names.

5. Shorter subject line, preferably within 50 letters length.

6. Test the email newsletter before blasting them out. This way you can see how the message will be viewed, check and see if the links are working properly, also making sure there aren’t any broken HTML codes.

Final tip is to put yourself in the recipient’s shoes. Imagine if you see the email message in the mail box, are you going to open it? Or are you going to trash it? Think about it and good luck on your email campaigns.

One departing note on engaging your customers via email, always remember not to send pointless emails to people that do not want them. Always include a unsubscribe link in your emails and think about how the emails will affect or benefit your customers.

Toner and Drum Reset Instruction for Okidata C3200N Printer

Last week we received a call from a local customer, well, he wasn’t a customer yet by the time of our phone conversation. He was having a printer recognition issue with the newly purchased remanufactured Okidata C3200N black drum from another vendor. That vendor provided no technical support but only asked this gentleman to return the unit back for a refund.

“I really need the drum to work ASAP, is there anything you can do to help me get my job done on time?” this gentle man asked.
Despite that he did not purchase the unit from us initially, instead of trying to expedite another drum to him, our technician our technician walked him through on how to reset his drum counter with the working drum that he already has prior to allow him to finish his print job. Since these instructions have worked out so well, we decided to share them with you so you can save money by replacing your parts a lot less often. These instructions may sound difficult at first, but they are well worth the time.

Get to the standard "Diagnostic Mode":

1) Turn off printer.

2) Turn on printer, while holding the + and - buttons.

3) The LCD Shows "OKI User", Scroll to "Engine Diag Mode", press "enter".

The display shows "Diag Mode 01.02.02 S-Mode" as mention multiple times on this thread.

At this point you should wait for the initialization cycle to complete. This means for all the motors and gears to have finished their noises and cycles – otherwise you will end up with a LCD switching between two different info screens - not a big deal but still can be annoying.

Now we want to go in "Regist Mode" by:

4) Pressing the "Online", "Cancel", "Enter", "-" and "Back" at the same time (not in any sequence – at the same time). Yes! That is 5 buttons.

5) Within two seconds, the LCD menu will show "READY". If it doesn’t, release button and repress buttons again.

6) The buttons release sequence is important. So, read this before letting go your five fingers: Release the "Enter" button first and THEN the four others. LCD is still showing "READY".

7) Press the "Online" and "Cancel" button at the same time BRIEFLY. Don’t wait before pressing them after the five fingers sequence otherwise you will miss your time slot.

You can always switch back from the "READY" to the "Diag Mode 01.02.02 S-Mode" menu by pressing the five buttons again.

Don’t laugh. I know it seems a lot of finger gymnastics. I guess they didn’t want the user to find that one easily.

Now you see "Eng Diag Level 2"

Press either the + or – button until "CONSUMABLE COUNTER SET" is displayed then press the ENTER button. You are now in the menu to set various consumables.

8) Press either the + or – buttons to scroll through the various consumables, at the desired consumable (ie. "K-ID UNIT …" for the Black Image Drum Unit, "C-Toner" for cyan toner, etc.), press the ENTER button and the last digit of the count will start flashing.

9) Press the CANCEL button to decrease the digit amount or press the ON-LINE button to increase the digit amount; press the + or – buttons to move along individual digits in the count. Note that it will not show the remaining but the usage (100% means it is empty).

10) Once the count is at the level you desire, press and hold the ON-LINE, CANCEL buttons simultaneously until the numbers stop flashing. You have now reset that consumable’s count to the number you specified. Note that you may end up with a different value then the one that was entered when saving. The printer engine is probably jumping to the nearest registered/acceptable value.

11) Press the + or – buttons to move to the next consumable and repeat at Step 8.

12) Once all consumable counts have been set to desired amounts that are below their end-of-life thresholds, you can use the Back, +, & - buttons to exit through the menus (reverse of Steps 5 through 7) until "INITIALIZING" is displayed. Or turn printer off and on.

13) You're finished! Now log in to the web interface with your browser and check to see the remaining life of your consumables.

Dell 1250 Series Printer Reset Instructions for Remanufactured Toner Recognition Issues

One of the most common issues for the Dell 1250 series printers is new toner cartridge recognition error. The printer cannot detect a newly installed cartridge due to problems communicating with an aftermarket smart chip. As a result, users cannot process any print jobs even through a full capacity cartridge has already been installed perfectly inside the printer.

Don’t panic there. Generally speaking, the main reason for the printer detecting error is due to the smart chip of the toner cartridge. The fastest way to resolve the issue and get printing started right away is by resetting the printer settings to tell the printer that you are not using an OEM Dell cartridge and tell the printer to bypass the smart chip and accept the toner, The setting change can be done in just a few simple steps as stated below:

1. Go to the “Printer Maintenance” on the printer menu

2. Scroll down to “Non-Dell” toner option

3. Select “On”

4. Select “Apply New Settings”

5. Restart the printer to enable the newly selected option

This method will not only save you the hassles from going through replacement and return process, but also enable the use of economical remanufactured toner cartridges, which translates into lots of money saved over the long run!

HP CE250A CE251A CE252A CE253A Toners Troubleshoot – Excess Color or Color Marking Issues

Sometimes even newly installed toners can cause slight color printing issues such as excess color on document, color strips, or color smear. These issues are usually caused by one of the following three reasons:

1. Newly installed toner cartridges sometimes require printing up to a certain number of pages in order to deliver consistent print quality.

2. The printer needs calibration in order to maximize print quality

3. The cartridge might be defected

We have organized some troubleshooting steps recommended by our technicians where users can try to resolve the issue first before seeking professional help:

Print out additional pages

Newly installed cartridges sometimes need to be in use for a short period of time. That way the unit and the ink can settle then operate up to standards. Users can test and see if the print quality improves after printing up to 50 sheets of test pages.

Calibrate the cartridge

1. On the printer panel, scroll down and select “Administration”

2. Scroll down and select “Print Quality”

3. Select “Quick Calibration” or “Full Calibration”

4. Select “Calibrate”

If the above steps failed and the issue still persists, the printer should launch a quick diagnose automatically. Otherwise users can perform the troubleshooting steps manually, which will be explained further from the below steps:

Troubleshoot the issue manually

1. On the printer panel, scroll down and select “Administration”

2. Scroll down and select “Troubleshooting”

3. Select “PQ Troubleshooting”

4. Select “Print”

The printer will start printing out test pages and the suggested instructions should also be listed on the document. The troubleshooting function is user friendly and self-explanatory. If the problem is with a particular toner cartridge, the diagnosed report will show as well.

We understand that most users would like to save more printing expenses by using re-manufactured compatible cartridges, but sometimes are wary about quality issues. That’s why here at Toner Spot, all of our website orders come with 30 Day Money Back Satisfaction Guarantee and up to 1 year product warranty. What is a MICR Toner?

Printers, toners, inks, drums, all these printing components can sometimes be confusing, let along there’s this one other type of uncommon unit called the MICR toner.

MICR is in fact an acronym stands for magnetic ink character recognition. The MICR technology is generally used in the banking or financial industries. The most common use is for checks, where the numbers on the bottom containing bank account number and band code were printed using a MICR toner. When the check passes through a specialized machine, the device will magnetize the ink and translate the printing into useful data.

Users must be aware that not all printer and toner models come with MICR options. In addition, some OEM models that are capable of using MICR toners do not manufacture such cartridges. As a result, finding a high quality yet affordable MICR cartridge can be tricky at times.

MICR toner cartridges are generally more expensive than regular toners, especially for OEM items. Here at Toner Spot, we work with series of ISO-9001 standards OEM and compatible MICR cartridge manufacturers. As a result, we do encourage our customers to simply email us and request for a price quote. Our price can be as great as 40% cheaper than regular OEM retail price. Please contact us at sales@toner-spot.com and our customer service team will reply within 24 business hours, and of course we are usually way faster than that!

Common Printed Image Issues and Solutions

Here at Toner Spot, we not only provide premium quality remanufactured cartridges, but also provide knowledgeable services when customers encounter technical issues. Few of the common questions we occasionally get usually regards to printed image defects such as fadeouts, unwanted lines, and specks. Users must be aware that not all the issues are caused by cartridges, especially when the units are made with high standard procedures such as our ISO-9001 products. We’ve pulled out some common defects and their possible causes along with solutions for your reference.

Partial light printing on document:

- Toner level might be low. Try to take out the cartridge and gently shake the unit. Reinsert the cartridge back to the printer. This is a temporary solution before replacing a new cartridge.

- Make sure the toner/drum cartridge is installed correctly.

- The media might not meet the specifications such as cardboard and laminated paper.

- The print might be due for maintenance. Users can check on the printer status and see if the unit needs further checkup before processing any more print jobs.

Specks and spots on document:

- Thoroughly clean the contact areas for the cartridge, the fuser, and the printer.

- Run a cleaning page

- The media might not meet the specifications. Try to switch to other type of paper and test the print quality again.
